Pushya, Pushyami, Tishya, or Sidhya is positioned from 3°20'- 16°40' of Vedic Sidereal Cancer. Its name means "The Nurturer". The symbols for Pushya are a Cow's Udder, a Lotus, and a Circle With an Arrow. Brihaspati is the presiding deity of Pushya. This is also where Jupiter is said to be in Exaltation. Along with being influenced by the Moon because the Moon is the ruler of Cancer.

Tishya is an alternative name for Pushya that comes from the scriptures. Tishya is the celestial archer. Known for protecting the soma or ambrosia (elixir of immortality). The word Tishya means lucky. Pushya is generally a very fortunate Nakshatra that can attract wealth, fame, and prosperity. The celestial archer represents the protective nature of this Nakshatra. Pushya falls entirely in the sign of Cancer. Cancer corresponds with the Moon and the 4th House. A House that represents the nourishment of the home and the mother. It's also a House of comfort and happiness.

I discussed in the blog on Punarvasu how it's paired with Pushya. Punarvasu represents happiness, good fortune, and the comforts of the home. To learn more about Punarvasu, check out Secrets of Punarvasu. It's very similar to Pushya. However, Pushya is focused heavily on the supportive and protective qualities of a mother. Having the ability to protect, preserve, care for, and grow someone/something for the better. The symbol of the Circle With an Arrow also depicts this. The Circle represents a protective boundary and the Arrow defends what's kept within the circle. Like an army protecting a king or the secret service protecting the president. The name Sidhya also means luck and perfection.

"Nurturer" again refers to the nurturing qualities of Pushya. People born under this Nakshatra are typically very supportive people. Seeking to serve and help bring out the best in others. Many people involved in the hospitality, restaurant, and hotel industry can be seen under Pushya. These people are also all about making sure that they're properly nourished. Pushya individuals love food. Especially comfort foods and dairy products. They might be slow eaters with unusual chewing habits. Reminiscent of their animal symbol, the male goat. Although, this is also a Nakshatra that's prone to weight gain or might naturally have a bit extra weight without being unhealthy. If placements in Pushya are badly damaged, it can show a lack of proper dietary nourishment. Sometimes cooks are born under this Nakshatra. The "Cow's Udder" symbolizes these nurturing qualities. The "Lotus" also symbolizes nourishment. The lotus has to thrive in muddy waters and bloom way above those waters. It does this by drawing up nutrients through a long stem.

Brihaspati is the presiding deity of Pushya. He is a form of Guru (Jupiter). It is even said that Jupiter is in Exaltation when entering into this Nakshatra. Jupiter is known for his kind and benevolent qualities. Along with being a planet of wisdom, expansion, and morality. To learn more about Jupiter, see Secrets of Guru (Jupiter). In the form of Brihaspati, Jupiter is the priest of the devatas. All of the gods come to him for his wisdom and advice. He also is the lord of prayers and sacred speech.

Pushya people tend to be very traditional and conventional. They have strong morality, ethics, and discipline. Along with honoring sacred practices such as religion or spirituality. So, they might have an interest in learning about sacred scriptures and gaining spiritual wisdom. Making them excellent mentors and counselors. Pushya individuals tend to be the ones whom others come to for advice. Even the shakti of Pushya is The Power to Harness Spiritual Energy. Meaning that they can activate the energy centers of the body that lead to accessing spiritual wisdom and knowledge. Acting as a priest to deliver knowledge from a higher source.

This is a very kind and soft-hearted Nakshatra. Pushya individuals tend to be sensitive to harshness and cruelty. They are advocates for treating others with care and respect. However, they can sometimes become escape artists. Finding reasons to escape situations that need to be confronted directly. They have difficulty dealing with anything that can cause disharmony. Pushya brings harmony and balance into situations. Sometimes they are forced to deal with difficult situations. Others might not appreciate them or could abandon them if they don't measure up to be successful.

However, Pushya people can also put a lot of blame on others and fail to see their faults in situations. Sometimes, on the shadow side, there can be an arrogant and boastful attitude to the Pushya people. They can claim that they were the ones to make success happen. Swearing that it wouldn't have been possible if they didn't participate. They can also become very strict and controlling. Sometimes, they are rigid in their beliefs. Believing that only traditional views or that only their high ideals are valid. Despite Pushya having a loving nature, they can struggle when it comes to these more stubborn qualities.

Pushya is very kind and charitable. They can have an interest in caring for the underprivileged. Paying respect to elders and remaining structured usually help them acquire success. These are people who can easily gain popularity. They are usually very attractive in appearance. Especially if the Ascendant or Moon sign is placed Pushya. They are very intelligent, responsible, and intuitive individuals. Although, they can be a bit indecisive at times. Pushya does fall in Cancer, a sign ruled by the Moon. The Moon is constantly changing. So, the Moon should be placed in a stable position in the chart. Pushya individuals can also be very philosophical and love to travel. This relates to Jupiter's influence again.
