Depiction of Rat Zodiac Animal

In Chinese Astrology, there is a story behind the order of the Zodiac. It's said that there was a time when the Jade Emperor called for a great race to determine the years of the calendar. 13 Chinese Zodiac animals were in this race. The rat and the cat were immediately turned off by the fact that the race involved water. So, they asked the ox if he could have a ride on his back. The ox was a very friendly and considerate animal. So, he agreed. However, the rat was being very clever and strategic. Halfway through the river, the rat pushed the cat into the water. The cat wasn't able to swim and ended up losing the race. In the rat's next move, he jumped in front of the ox to cross the finish line at the last second. The rat's cunning and resourcefulness allowed him to win the race.

In the same way, we can see the same cleverness in the personality of those born under the rat. These are individuals who are extremely intelligent, witty, charming, adaptable, ambitious, resourceful, cautious, strategic, and imaginative. Their optimism and enthusiasm are driving forces that allow them to succeed. Along with the ability to pair intuition with problem-solving skills. The rat is very versatile when it comes to the talents that can be achieved. Along with being a perfectionist and extremely hard working. Many people admire those born under the rat for their accomplishments. They can have an entire fan base and rats are extremely outgoing individuals. Yet, in some ways, they can be shy and cautious.  They are always on alert for any problem that might arise and are natural survivors no matter what environment they're in.

On the other hand, there are negative characteristics of the rat. These individuals can be stubborn, greedy, prideful, shy, secretive, unstable in emotions, moody, gossipy, preachy, picky, unpredictable, controlling, overly perfectionistic, criticizing, paranoid, suspicious, lonely, constantly changing jobs and locations, complaining, and lacking in self-esteem. Sometimes their cool and charming demeanor is a facade that's hiding emotional trauma that they might be struggling with.
